About Michelle Baker

Michelle Baker

MSc, BA (Hons), PGCE, NLP Dip, MBACP

I hold individual membership with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the Association of the ICH (AICH), and am a member of the Institute for Learning.

I studied on a two year teacher training course with Canterbury Christchurch University. Within my tutoring role I assist students from a range of counselling colleges with aspects of their work such as, gaining a better understanding of how to fully meet the criteria and preparation for external assessments.

My counselling/psychotherapy model is integrative. I am a counselling lecturer, teaching counselling at an adult college in London, as well as in a hypnotherapy training college. I currently work as a psychotherapist in private practice receiving some referrals from the NHS, EAPs and medical and insurance companies. I also work on a structured addiction treatment programme in a prison context where my work includes facilitating assessments, 1-1 therapy, group therapy and workshops. Meditation/mindfulness, guided visualisation and EMDR feature in my way of working.

I decided to make counselling my life's work almost as soon as I qualified as a therapist in 2005. Since those early days my involvement has deepened and developed into many aspects of the profession and covers a range of approaches.

I have experience and training in working as a therapist within a number of agency settings specialising in working with smoking cessation; phobias; anxiety disorders; sexual abuse; bereavement and victims of crime which include: rape, domestic violence, homicide as well as racially motivated crimes.
